Mother Goose Tells The Truth About Middle Age by Sydney Altman

(The Follies & Foibles of Aging--told in familiar verse)

A Collection of Wise and Witty Poems for Adults
Illustrated by Marty Riskin

Remember Jack and Jill who went up the hill? Well, they're now middle-aged and almost over the hill. Let's face it, while getting older is no joke, laughing about it certainly makes it easier.

Put on your reading glasses and enjoy these revamped rhymes about the trials and tribulations of aging baby boomers. The perfect gift for the middle-aged boy or girl who has everything.

My Review:
I first stumbled upon these recreated nursery rhymes when a good friend sent me an email that contained some of them. I laughed, and posted it on my other blog Smiling Sally. I am placing the link here for you to check it out for yourself.

This is a funny book. The art work is terrific. Some of the rhymes stumble a bit, but I quickly forgive anyone who gives me a chuckle. And, this book is chock full of chuckles. I especially liked Low-Fat Cake, No-Cal Shake. I sang along (to the tune of London Bridge Is Falling Down on page 43) to My Poor Sadie. The final page lists the original nursery rhyme titles.

You have to see it to believe it, and so I will include three examples of this funny sixty-six page hardback book of laughs. I think that it would make an excellent gift for anyone with a sense of humor over the age of forty. Note: contains some profanity and adult themes.

Victoria's Rejects by Sydney Altman and Zoe Lazar

For the middle-aged woman who is tired of the realities of growing older, Victoria's Rejects presents a refreshing new outlook. This hilarious catalogue offers a wealth of outrageous products which promise to reverse the hands of time and return aging baby boomers to their former youthful glory.

Victoria's Rejects is guaranteed to restore any woman's sense of humor despite the multiple indignities of aging.

My Review:
If you're a person who enjoys Dave Barry, you'll like this one. I enjoyed it and laughed out loud several times. The cover shows the Knee Fat Lifter, which looks a bit like a garter. It would seem the Skin Clips (shown below) would "work" much the same way.

The "catalog" is divided by these categories: Beauty Products, Cognitive Enhancers, Books, Gift Items, Clothing, Intimate Matters, Sensory Aids, New Age, Mood Modifiers, Dolls, Baby It's You, Music, Exercise, Health Supplements, Trips, Continuing Education, and concludes with an Order Worksheet.

I think that this would be a fun gift idea for any lady over a certain age who has a sense of humor. My favorite item is Space-shoe Heels. I think that I should order a pair! You have to see it to believe it! "A picture is worth a thousand words," the saying goes, and so I will include three wonderful examples of this funny book (that looks like a stiff magazine).
