Monica suggested this one: Got this idea from Literary Feline during her recent contest: “Name a favorite literary couple and tell me why they are a favorite. If you cannot choose just one, that is okay too. Name as many as you like–sometimes narrowing down a list can be extremely difficult and painful. Or maybe that’s just me.”
My Response:
I point to William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet for my favorite couple of literature. From the time Romeo Montague spots Juliet Capulet at the party, his heart is hers. Once they talk, she is equally entranced. This timeless tale of star-crossed lovers who determine to be together--no matter what their families dictate, and even to the point of death--is my choice for this answer.
Who do you choose for your favorite couple in literature?

Very classic couple :)
I went with Shakespeare too, but a very different couple - Beatrice and Benedick. Happy BTT =)
Aww...Romeo and Juliet. How could i ever miss that. I am such a dud...
Hm, heir relationship is an interesting one, but Juliet to me is a bit of a bland character. Now Katarina and Petruchio in Taming of the Shrew...
I admire your ability to choose just one!
Tragic, young love...
Great pick - theirs is a timeless love story.
Great answer. They were one of my favorite couples too. In fact, I almost chose them :>)
Great answer, Sally. My daughter's name is Juliet so I have a special fondness for that character :)

Oh! I forgot about them.
You know, I love Shakespeare, but I always thought Romeo & Juliet was more of a cautionary tale about what happens when two irrational teenagers make a crazy decision. They both end up dead, and I have a hard time calling that romantic....but I totally understand why you chose them, and I'm sure we'll see a lot of it today.

Good answer! I never even thought of that one!
Shakespeare had some great couples!
yes, that is the sweetest couple :)
Happy BTT!!
Interesting choice!
I'm a Romeo and Juliet fan myself!
I love Romeo and Juliet, too :)
Thanks for visiting today!
I don't know call me crazy but their story never did it for me. I totally get what you're saying, but I guess I can't quite get past the ending? Dunno.
It's probably one of the first off people's mind, other than Elizabeth and Darcy.
A classic (and classy!) choice! I haven't read (or seen) R&J since high school, but I took a great Shakepeare class in college (it was outside my field of study, and sometimes those were the best classes!) and always meant to read more.
I never felt that couple (or the play) - too much drama for my liking. But I do think it's one of the classics and obvious one of two literary couples.
I chose the other one...
Ooh, a classic choice, as everyone else says! Romeo and Juliet definitely set the standard for many later literary couples.
I thought about Romeo and Juliet, but didn't put them on my list!
Oh! But of course! How could I forget them! And then there's Beatrice and Benedict another couple I love. Thanks for leaving a comment. :)
That is a good one-I hadn't even thought of them.
Yeah, I mention romeo and juliet, but not as a favorite couple..more how i DO NOT see them as the perfect couple. LOL

I didn't think of them either but they are a great couple.
Ah I hadn't even thought of them but they are propably the greatest couple in literature. This Booking Through Thursday has made me want to re-read lots of books!
Great choice, Romeo and Juliet are quite possibly the best example of tragic romance in literature.
Romeo & Juliet is on my list as well :)

Eh, i'm not a fan of tragic love stories.
I'm so glad that someone paid attention to the second part of the question "tell me why." I've been reading through hoping to see some answers like this. Good choice too!
