Booking Through Thursday - Meme
I’ve seen this series of questions floating around the ‘net the last few days, and thought it looked like a good one for us! (My answers are in parenthesis.)
What was the last book you bought?
(Sunset by Karen Kingsbury--I must find out how the Baxters are doing.)
Name a book you have read MORE than once
(The Holy Bible and just recently, The Justice by Angela Hunt)
Has a book ever fundamentally changed the way you see life? If yes, what was it?
(Yes, the Bible!)
How do you choose a book? eg. by cover design and summary, recommendations or reviews
(I look at the cover and read the blurb and title. Once in awhile, I read a book recommended by a friend or a reviewer. In addition, I have favorite authors I follow. )
Do you prefer Fiction or Non-Fiction?
(I have always loved fiction best!)
What’s more important in a novel: beautiful writing or a gripping plot?
(The plot--the story--is the most important part.)
Most loved/memorable character (character/book)
(This is one of those questions that I will think on and reevaluate as the day wears on. Whenever I read a good book, I'm left with memories of characters, so there are many. I will mention the last memorable character--a ventriloquist's dummy, George.)
Which book or books can be found on your nightstand at the moment?
(Rhapsody in Red by Donn Taylor is the book I currently reading. I start a book and keep at it until I've finished. I seldom read more than one at a time. )
What was the last book you’ve read, and when was it?
(I finished by George by Wesley Stace on October 6th.)
Have you ever given up on a book half way in?
(Yes, just recently. It is so awful that I simply could not finish it. Obviously, I won't review that one!)

I agree with you on reading Fiction. My books are mostly fiction. Hubby on the other hand mainly reads non-fiction.
I do like to read Memoirs and Travelogues. Also Books pertaining to sciences. After all I am chemistry post graduate!
.
I've always wanted to try Angela Hunt. She is very active on Shelfari and seems to have a huge following!
Regarding characters.."This is one of those questions that I will think on and reevaluate as the day wears on." AGREED!
Thanks for visiting my blog. Recently I started to really enjoy Fiction, and "Witch" was the 2nd Fictional book I read and I enjoyed it so because it goes into a side of the Wizard Of Oz that you never heard about, lol.
Have a great day!
I need to read Angela Hunt...everyone seems to love her. Adding her to my (long) list!
Enjoyed your answers!
I've read a couple of Angela Hunt books, and enjoyed them.
Good--someone else who seldom reads more than one book at a time! LOL
Thanks for visiting my blog...I am really going to have to try Angela Hunt - I've heard great things about her books.
I agree about the story being the most important part.
I've never heard of Angela Hunt.
An independent book reviewer ... that sounds like a wonderful job! thanks for visiting my blog ... I'll have to add George to by reading list.
Hey,
thanks for stopping by mines. It looks as though the Bible has changed a lot of lives. I should have listed that as a re-read as well, but I just listed the first that came to mind.
And I agree with the favoruite character comment - just too hard to narrow down.
I agree with you - the plot is the most important part of the book!
I appreciated reading through your answers. Thanks also for leaving a comment at my spot.
I have had a goal to read the Bible through completely and have not attained that goal! I may make that a new years resolution for next year.
I have a few of Angela Hunt's books on my TBR shelf.
I am with you on not finishing a book if it is really awful. There are so many wonderful books out there and time is so precious!
Thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving comments today
Yep the Bible is one that contacts to be read over and over and over. ;)
Thank you for visiting my blog and commenting :) I agree that your reading time is a precious commodity. I, too, have only recently started ditching books I don't like, and it's still hard to do.
I agree reading is a precious commodity, I recently had to read a book for a Literature Class that I would not have finished.... (might have been a first). Still I always have it running in the back of my head...what if I finished it...
This question pretty much sums up many of the past ones.
I mostly read fiction, although once in a while a non-fiction, like history or a biography will interest me.
My favorite genres are historical fiction, foreign literature, and classics.
My complete answer.
I think I have read any of the books you mention (except of course the Bible), but I agree about the question where it asked us to name loved/memorable characters. There lot of characters that would fit this questions, for me too :)
Thanks for visiting my blog, Happy BTTs and have a good Thursday!
The Bible is the most meaningful, and most oft read, book for me, too. Although I have read several others several times. Namely: Atlas Shrugged, Possession, The Robber Bride, Charlotte's Web.
I liked your answers to the questions; we are very similar!
I, too, generally read one book at a time -- especially fiction. I'll have to check out some of the books you mentioned.
I often have a book of poetry on the go but haven't read two novels at the same time since High School.
The difference was definitely the reader. I'm curious to reread other books I hated in high school, because maybe now I'd enjoy them!
Ooh, which book did you recently not finish??
You're so right about it being hard to choose just a few good characters. I picked two for my BTT, but ever since I keep recalling others and thinking to myself "oh how could I have forgotten them?" :)
Thanks for the comment on my post. When I was in school, especially grad school, I always felt compelled to read everything assigned, largely because the grade may have depended on it. Not that I always did, but I tried.
Now, however, I will put down a book if it isn't compelling, if it doesn't meet my expectations as a reader or writer. I also think books affect us differently at different ages and some books, if we pick them up again later in life, they make sense or connect with us. I had that experience recently when I reread Anna Karenina. The first time I read that novel, it's length was intimidating, and much of it was distracting. I kept reading because I felt obligated to read it.
Last year when I read it, however, I read it and was absorbed by it. The scholar Harold Bloom has a notion that great books teach you how to read them, and I think I had this experience when I read Anna Karenina. I was listening to the novel, rather than forcing myself on it.
The Bible is a good answer for one that changed your life.
Following favorite author's works! I didn't think of that when I was posting my answer, but, yes, that's definitely a major way new books come into my life.
It's nice that you read one book at a time. I try to, but usually I start four or five books at once because i can't wait to finish one before starting another :/
Hey there. I did BTT early and had it automatically post so I wasn't able to add my url to the list or visit others until now. So just wanted to let you know I've read your BTT and that mine's here if you want to read it.
