Booking Through Thursday - Collectibles

If you would like to join in, click here.

Today's question:
* Hardcover? Or paperback?
* Illustrations? Or just text?
* First editions? Or you don’t care?
* Signed by the author? Or not?

My Response:
As much as I love reading, I don't collect books. Shelves and shelves of books equate the tedious job of dusting, not the joy of reading. Since I do not re-read, I pass the vast majority of my books along--even those that have been signed by the author.

I do have a few coffee table books. I have one on England, purchased when Johnny and I traveled there. I have two others that I put out for a change.

I no longer choose to read paperback books. Paperback books use such a small print that my eyes tear. I like hardcovers or softbound books.

How about you?

Take note of my book giveaway in my sidebar.

✻Blogger is still not functioning well. For some reason, I am unable to leave comments on some blogs I visit. Some of you have told me that you've experienced glitches too. I have emailed some, but I will leave my comments for you whenever Mr. Blogger gets running correctly.

How can you give all your books away? I simply cant if I love a book I just buy copies for other people that I know will love it too. You've got great restraint. My piles and shelves of books are a bit of a horders dream.

Are you, by chance, a Bookcrosser?

I think books are meant to be read and shared, as well, and so does the entire bookcrossing community! Check it out, if you haven't already...it's a great way to share those books you don't want laying around, taking up space!

Happy Reading, Sally, and I do hope you have a wonderful weekend ahead!

I don't give away the majority of my books, but I do give away the ones I know I'll never look at again.

I don't re-read either. I just don't have the time and I have so many books in my TBR that haven't been read even once. I'm concentrating on those. Depending how I feel about a book, I'll swap them at Paperback Swap or Bookmooch. I have very few keepers these days. I don't have enough room for that anymore.

Happy Thursday!

I can't bear getting rid of a book that's been signed by the author.

I just don't seem to be able to part with books, even the ones I know I'm not likely to re-read. If a book comes into my possession, it's pretty much mine for life. I think I need some sort of re-training program.

Well, let's see if Blogger will let me leave THIS comment! =)

Interesting that you don't enjoy collecting books. For some reason I find that aspect of your post the most fascinating. It's true books do give cause for a lot of dusting!

I DO re-read books but I'm becoming more and more selective over which books I'll keep around for that purpose.

My post is up for whenever!

Good morning Sally, It is true that paper back books have smaller print although I have noticed you can get some with larger print now if you prefer. I love travel books. The illustrations are usually quite beautiful. I have a couple that I like to leave out too.

I give away books that I know I won't re-read or if I have a duplicate copy of it!

I'm starting to thin out my shelves out of necessity. I'm raising two little readers and I can't imagine what the house will like when they start collecting. :)

I only choose what I keep.. those that I would like to share with my kids when they're older. :)

My books are a mixture of hardbacks and paperbacks. My answer is here, http://zetor-mogsblog.blogspot.com/2009/02/booking-through-thursday_26.html

I'm not a collector, I'm a reader. I've been asked the paperback vs. hardback question so many times so I'm not doing a separate post for BTT this week. Unless otherwise stated, or gifts, I only buy trade paperbacks. they are easier to carry and lug around. I also like the look of books in even sizes on my bookcases. :)

I'm a reader and a collector. I enjoy looking at my bookshelves and knowing I've read all (ok..most) of the books. I also don't mind dusting them, just like I think it's fun to re-arrange them. haha!
